Step 2: Show Off My Stomping Grounds

22 Mar

Next it was on to introduce Jakey to my favorite places in NYC, including Shake Shack, Prospect Park, Central Park, and FAO Schwartz.

Step 1: Reunion

21 Mar

The last time I saw Jakey I was a significantly different age. So after being starstruck by him for a little while (I mean he built the Empire State Building with my blocks!) I showed off and we had a ball. Note: I did not stop laughing at Jakey the whole weekend. The best part was when he made me laugh so hard I couldn’t catch my breath.

Brooklyn Is My Borough

16 Mar

Big day in Brooklyn. After a gospel choir filled church service and a banh mi sandwich, I followed the St. Paddy’s Day parade back home. Halfway, at the library, I ran into Mayor Bill DeBlasio’s motorcade and got to see him and his wife on a short walk from swanky Escalade to Brooklyn library. When I got to my neck of the woods, all the Jewish kiddos were dressed in costume for Purim.

Just another day in Brooklyn.

Oh and as the sun was setting this “parade” came passing by our house. Not sure he had found the route but that didn’t stop him from singing his Yiddish song!

Fuel

11 Mar

Nothing like the sun coming out. Time to go nuts at the park with my boys and then refuel on some potato/broccoli patties for tomorrow.

TRUCKS!

10 Mar

Today we ventured to the next block, stroller-less to watch a backhoe. We sat on the curb for 30 minutes and I watched every last bit of dirt get moved from the street to the dump truck. And I stayed entranced until that dump truck drove away and I couldn’t see it anymore. Then we sat on the bench and waved to the other trucks – buses, fire trucks, ambulances, and SUVs.

To round out this day of 50 degree weather I ran laps up and down the wheelchair ramp outside the building, giggling every second of it.

It has been a long winter. (And yes, that’s snow still on the ground.)
